Half a Million Euros from Norway for a Better Water Supply in Preševo

Works on the construction of a new booster pipeline are underway and will be completed by September 2021.

The Kingdom of Norway through the project "Norway for You - Serbia" supports the improvement of water supply in Presevo with half a million euros, and works on the construction of a new booster pipeline are underway and will be completed by September 2021.

The Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway Geir Håkon Johansen visited the works today together with the Acting Mayor of Preševo Shqiprim Arifi, and the Deputy Director of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa Jelena Čolić.

"This project brings encouragement, because together with the municipality of Preševo, the Coordination Body of the Government of Serbia and UNOPS, we are working on providing a safe water supply for about 13,000 citizens of Preševo. The Kingdom of Norway has invested half a million euros in the construction of the main pipeline and the reconstruction of the pumping station, because in that way we are creating a sustainable infrastructure that improves people's lives", said the Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway Geir Håkon Johansen.

The construction of the new booster pipeline from the pumping station "Žujince" to the reservoir "Loši izvori" in Preševo, started at the beginning of March 2021, and it is divided into three sections with a total length of about 6,000 meters. The project also envisages drainage buildings and air valves with shafts, for safer maintenance of the water supply system.

"This is a very important project for the Municipality of Preševo, due to the long-standing needs of the municipality to improve the water supply. We are very grateful to the Kingdom of Norway for all the support, with which we will replace the old asbestos pipes with new metal ones, and thus enable a stable supply of healthy water in accordance with the standards of the European Union", said the Acting Mayor of Preševo Shqiprim Arifi.

The Kingdom of Norway set aside 430,000 Euros for the works on the construction of the main pipeline, while the Municipality of Preševo provided 190,000 Euros through the Coordination Body of the Government of Serbia for the municipalities of Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa.

"The construction of the new pipeline is important for the development of infrastructure in Preševo, which will affect the quality of life of the inhabitants. Now, with joint efforts, we can solve a long-standing problem and enable a stable water supply," the Deputy Director of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia Jelena Čolić said.

Through the project "Norway for you - Serbia", the pumping station "Žujince", which is part of this system, was previously successfully reconstructed. Three new single-stage centrifugal pumps and new distribution cabinets with accompanying equipment were installed. The total value of these works was 167,000 euros.
